Hoover Dam Bridge on Hwy 93 over Colorado River

Hoover Dam Bridge on Hwy 93 over Colorado River

When we were visiting Las Vegas in September of 2007, they were building a new bridge on Hwy 93 going across from Nevada into Arizona, thereby bypassing the dam bridge. Does anyone know if this bridge is completed and if so, how’s the road going that way for RVs?

New bridge still a work in progress. RVs allowed to go across dam via old road, and as you know those hairpin turns can be extra fun. Be prepared for full inspection of your RV, including storage areas, at check points before the dam.

That bridge is not scheduled to open till 2010. If you go to you can see pictures. It is going to be something.

This fall they were routing all truck south toward Laughlin so as not to use the dam crossing.

You don’t have to go through Laughlin, the only reason commercial traffic is not allowed on the dam is because of security restrictions, not road conditions. But then again, if you don’t want Homeland Security looking through your cargo bays……. Laughlin might be the best way after all!

We go through there twice a year with never a problem. The greatest hazard are the millions of visitors and being aware of where they may walk…..

Went through there last Sept. No problem as mentioned the bridge is still being built.

Inspectors were very nice. Walk through inside and I had to open all outside storage compartments on the motorhome. They just looked.

The bigest problem is the traffic and going down to the dam and then climbing back up those turny twisty roads.

Just be careful of my buffalo as you travel.

Heck, when we went that way summer of 2008 the man who was going to do the inspection just talked to us inside our mh. Turns out he was originally from out area.
